The challenge at Coley Park Baptist Church was to create a new entrance foyer / welcome lobby, subdivisible meeting room space, kitchenette and toilets on a very tight budget and to improve the image of the dull 1960s architecture of the existing church building.
The design of the new extension is simple - it is single-storey, rectangular in plan with white walls, low eaves and a new fully glazed main entrance giving good visibility into the foyer.
The tight budget was carefully managed to ensure the project was affordable. The result is a pleasing, modest addition to an otherwise nondescript hall building.
The facilities provided by the extension have made a significant contribution to the life of the Church. They are widely used by many groups and have facilitated events and activities which could not previously have been hosted.
